IN-CAHOOTS

Soup. Bread. Vote.

Using food and conversation to promote community-based development, collaboration among neighbors, and bottom-up democracy, in a fun, friendly setting.

Congratulations to Doug Pollock, the winner of September's In-cahoots grant!  He's working to save the ancient old growth trees in the OSU research forests

Join us on January 23, 2020 @ 6:30 p.m.  at the Unitarian Church in Corvallis, 2945 NW Circle Blvd. for the next event!

HOW IT WORKS

20180517_194359.jpg

Every few months In-cahoots hosts a dinner where everyone and anyone is welcome. The suggested donation is $10. Three members of our community make brief presentations describing a project they have that needs funding. It could be an artist who wants to paint a mural, a neighbor who wants to start a community garden, or a teacher who wants a professional writer to help her students write a play. The project could be anything that benefits the community. Everyone at the dinner votes and the project that gets the most votes wins the money collected at the door. Voila!

HOW TO SUPPORT IN-CAHOOTS

• Attend the dinner. And bring a friend. Children and families are welcome!

• Donate soup, bread, or cookies.

• Volunteer. Join the team.  Help us organize In-cahoots events.

• Spread the word to teachers, artists, farmers, innovators, helpers and thinkers of all kinds.  If someone you know has a good idea, but needs a little funding to get it going, tell them about In-cahoots and encourage them to apply!

PREVIOUS WINNERS

Did you know there's a grant that pays for low-income children in Corvallis to attend the Bates preschool at OSU, but no way to get them there?  Araceli Mendes did.  She found a bus service to provide transportation but needs money to pay the driver and buy gas.  She won the first  In-cahoots grant!

Invisible to most of us, there are 288 children in the Corvallis School District who are homeless.  The majority of these children are elementary school students.  Liv Gifford would like to provide afterschool care for these kids.  The In-cahoots grant she won in September will help provide a few more hours of shelter, as the Oregon rainy season begins.

The May In-cahoots grant went to two high school students: Claire Conner and Ava Minu-Sephr.  They are reducing food insecurity among families who slip through the cracks of established programs.  Families receive delivery of healthy food from a partner-family with the goal of establishing relationships among people with different socioeconomic levels, in addition to reducing hunger.
